A Life of Service and Leadership In the heart of the Upper West Region of Ghana, in the town of Wa, a young boy named Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo dreamed of making a difference. Born on May 15, 1964, he embarked on a journey of education, leadership, and public service that would shape not only his life but also the lives of many Ghanaians.

A Journey Through Education From an early age, Dr. Pelpuo displayed a deep passion for learning. He completed his Middle School Leaving Certificate in 1976, followed by his O-Level in 1983 and A-Level in 1986. Recognizing the power of education in shaping societies, he pursued a Diploma in Economics and a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology in 1994. His thirst for knowledge led him to earn a Master’s Degree in International Affairs in 1998. But he did not stop there. Determined to contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s development, he pursued a PhD in Development Policy from the University of Ghana, African Studies, which he successfully completed in 2013.

From Consultancy to Public Service Before stepping into mainstream politics, Dr. Pelpuo worked as a consultant for the Institute of Policy Alternatives, where he contributed to shaping national policies. His leadership skills soon caught the attention of the National Youth Council, where he served in multiple roles: • Deputy Coordinator of Finance • Director of the National Youth Council • Agricultural Acting Regional Director These roles gave him firsthand experience in governance, policy implementation, and youth empowerment, laying a solid foundation for his political career.

A Political Force in Ghana In 2004, Dr. Pelpuo made a bold move into politics, contesting for the Wa Central Constituency seat on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). His vision for the people resonated strongly, and he was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) in 2005. His electoral victory was no small feat—he secured 51.3% of the total votes, defeating multiple opponents from various political parties. His win was a testament to the trust and confidence the people of Wa Central had in him. Since then, Dr. Pelpuo has remained undefeated in parliamentary elections, securing five consecutive terms in 2008, 2012, 2016, and 2020. His continued presence in Parliament reflects his unwavering dedication to the people of Wa Central.

Today, he serves as the current Member of Parliament (MP) for Wa Central and holds the prestigious position of Minister for Labour, Jobs, and Employment, where he is spearheading initiatives to create job opportunities and improve labour conditions across Ghana.
