The Ministry of Employment and Labour relations (MELR) in collaboration with GIZ, the Labour Department (LD) and the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) launched the 2023 GIZ-Ghana Carreer and Migration Fair at the Ghanaian-European Centre for Jobs, Migration and Development on Monday, 6th November, 2023.
Speaking at the launch, the Component Manager of the GIZ, Mr. kweku Yeboah, said the initiative started in 2017 in collaboration with MELR.
He revealed that the GIZ is rendering services on behalf of the European Union (EU) and intends to expand its services to cater for areas such as labour migration, skills training, and TVET services.
He pointed out that the collaboration was to compliment the efforts and services of the ministry, adding that the fair will support sustainable jobs in the country.
According to him the job fair will not only support Ghanaian Youth but also those across the world including regional opportunities.
Mr. Yeboah seized the opportunity to call on the media to create more awareness on the programme which is slated for Wednesday, 9th November, 2023 at the University of Professional Studies (UPS) Campus in Accra.
Mr. Alhaj. Braimah Dawuda, the Ag. Chief Labour Officer expresses his appreciation to GIZ for complementing the work of the labour department. He said the role of the labour department in terms of Labour migration cannot be underestimated.
According to Mr. Braimah, the department which happens to be the face with employment issues is very much concerned about how especially Ghanaians youth migrate through unsafe pathways.
He reckoned that the 2023 Job Fair is a platform to educate and inform migrants on safe pathways among others.
Director from the Youth Employment Agency, Mr. Agya Yaw also threw his weight behind the programmes to ensure its success. He indicated that the YEA shared responsibility in the Job Fair, saying that the youth unemployment situation is not the single responsibility of one institution “Public sector cannot do it alone, thus the collaboration was a step in the right direction”.
He added that the platform will interface with the private sector to provide employment to the unemployed youth in the country.
